It is best practice to refresh your Safeguarding Children learning every three years and it is now an FA requirement that Licensed Coaches recertify at three yearly intervals.
This course is easy to access and you can complete it in your own time wherever you can access the internet. It will help ensure your knowledge and practice is up to date.
The course gives practical examples of situations that occur in football and gives advice on how to deal with them, from whether you can use photographs of children on your website to dealing with bullying or suspected child abuse. There is a recap of the face to face Safeguarding course and new information, like changes in the law and how to protect children on the internet.

1. What is the Safeguarding Children Online Recertification course?
This is a recertification course and is designed for participants to update their Safeguarding Children qualification and ensure their knowledge about best practice is refreshed. Updating should happen every three years. The Online course does not replace the three hour workshop which must be taken before candidates are allowed access to the online recertification course. However, the online course does replace the booklet and check list recertification pack that used to be supplied by post. The new online modules are quick and easy to access and designed to be user friendly.
2. Do people have to do the Safeguarding Children Online Recertification Online course?
It is best practice to update Safeguarding Children training every three years. Some participants may choose to attend the three hour workshop a second time rather than use the online method. Some learners do prefer to be with other people rather than work alone. Some Clubs choose to get together to do the three hour workshop again so they can discuss issues together.
3. How much will the Safeguarding Children Online Recertification course cost?
£13.95
4. How long will it take to complete?
Approximately 1.5hrs
5. Can it be completed in stages or must it all be done at once?
Candidates can revisit and complete the course repeatedly until they have clicked to indicate they have finished it. Once they have done this, they cannot go back.
6. What if the candidate gets a wrong answer?
If an incorrect answer is given this will be made clear on screen, candidates have the opportunity to rethink their answer and try again. Each time an incorrect answer is given this is indicated and the candidate will be required to rethink their response until they have got the correct answer and are then able to proceed to the next question.
7. How do people get access to this online course?
Candidates have to pay before they can get access. This is done by accessing http://eventspace.thefa.com/onlinecourses
Candidates are sent a link to the County FA members’ services sites, where they log in directly with their FAN and password and access the course. Once logged in, the course can be accessed by clicking on ‘My Football’ then ‘Online Courses’ on the left hand side.
8. Can people still complete the Check sheets if they want to?
The Check sheets are no longer being given out and haven’t been since June 2011. Anyone wishing to recertificate will be directed to the new Safeguarding Children Online Recertification course. However if anyone has already started to complete the Check sheets or has a copy at home they plan to complete and send in we will continue to process these in the usual manner.
9. Once you have completed the Safeguarding Children Online Recertification course what’s the next form of training?

10. How will Club and Youth League Welfare Officers be able check if people have updated their safeguarding training?
Club and Youth League Welfare Officers will be able to see who in their Club or League has completed this training by making use of the Online Safeguarding Service records accessible via member services. Any Club or Youth League Welfare Officer needing assistance in this should contact their County FA Welfare Officer.
11. Will this course be certificated, if it is how do they get it?
Yes there is a certificate. FA Learning will send out the certificate to the address once candidates have successfully completed the course.
12. As a Club Welfare Officer or Youth League Welfare Officer can I complete the Online Safeguarding Children Recertification course?
Yes of course. You might find it helpful to know what others are learning as well as refreshing your own knowledge.
