"I got into refereeing by being in the right place at the wrong time - and havent looked back.
My son was playing in a friendly and I was asked by the opposing manager to referee. Refereeing was the last job I thought I'd get involved with, but I enjoyed it so much I was keen to learn more.
The course I attended was a fast track one, consisting of 1 x 1 hr evening session and then full day on the following Saturday & Sunday.
The course was tutored by two existing referees (John Laws & Kevin Cook) with an abundance of knowledge and experience (and many great stories), and involved both practical and theory.
Despite playing since 8, I was surprised how much I didnt know. I would strongly recommend the course to anyone with an avid interest in the game.
Refereeing is a great way to meet people and a great community to be part of - support is on hand 24/7 through the NFA or Referees Association.
I honestly believe the course is excellent value for money and once enrolled, you wont look back - I havent, and only wish I had started out earlier."
