Defender Sam Carson opened Ponteland’s account after just 12 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, a towering header from Liam Paul from a corner cancelled out his goal giving Newcastle East End a 27th minute equaliser. This was followed by an instant reaction by Ponteland through Will Scott, following some great work down the left wing from Will Jenkins, resulting in Ponteland going into the break 2-1 up.

Will Morris looked to have sealed it for Ponteland on the 52nd minute, the team in sky blue ahead with a two goal cushion. Despite being down by two goals Newcastle East End put pressure on and managed to score again before full time. A late free kick to Newcastle East End gave an opportunity for them to gain an equaliser and push the game into extra time. The free kick was sent deep into the 6-yard box, which goalkeeper Hugo Banks collected under pressure, and finally the game finished 3-2 in favour of an elated Ponteland United PSG who went on to lift the McDonalds Boys U15 cup.

From the very start of the game it was a very even affair on an overcast evening at Whitley Park. Both teams having end to end chances before the first goal; scored by Sam Carson on the 12th minute. A corner from the right hand side was whipped in and found the head of Carson who used his height and strength to beat the keeper in the air and head home from close range.

With Ponteland PSG 1-0 up, Newcastle East End manager Dave Dixon decided to make an early change by bringing on winger Liam Paul. And an inspired substitution is was as Paul scored with his second touch of the ball, another goal from a corner which was headed in from a few yards out.

Ponteland produced an instant reply in the form of some tricky wing play down the left hand side by Will Jenkins, dribbling the ball inside before dragging back for teammate Will Scott to side foot past keeper Danny Fletcher.

Newcastle East End had most of the possession leading up to half time lead by some great play from defender Joe Davey, driving his team forward and creating chances.

The second half was even more end-to-end with 'keepers at both sides denying strikers Will Scott and Corey McKeown early on. This was before Will Morris seemingly put the game beyond doubt on 52 minutes, Ponteland then cruising with a two goal lead.

But again Newcastle East End bounced back, bridging the gap to one goal through a Jackson Ward tap in, much to the delight of the crowd.

The game ended with a continuous stampede of Newcastle East End chances. A free kick on the corner of the 18-yard box at the dying embers of the game gave Newcastle East End one last ray of hope to push the game into extra time, but Ponteland keeper caught the ball in a crowded penalty box.

Shortly after, the final whistle was blown, and the match ended 3-2, Ponteland managing to hold on until the end and lift the 2017 McDonald's Boys U15 Cup.
