Wallsend B.C. Yellows won the Shiremoor Press Boys U13 Cup Final with an emphatic 4-0 win over Newcastle City Juniors at Whitley Park on Friday evening; courtesy of braces from Sam Fishburn and Dylan Garvey.
The game started well for Newcastle City Juniors, who held most of the possession through midfielder James Robinson and pushed their opponents back in the first few minutes.
However, it was the long balls from Jack Roys early on which allowed Wallsend into the game, as the City Juniors defence struggled to clear in the air and Joe Steward headed just over the cross bar.
The first goal of the game came not long after. On the 23rd minute, Sam Fishburn was found in the centre of the box and turned his man well before slotting into the bottom corner with his left foot.
The goal seemed to be the catalyst Wallsend needed as they scored again five minutes later from the penalty spot. Sam Fishburn was the man to strike from 12 yards after the City Juniors ‘keeper brought his teammate down in the area.
Wallsend could have had three moments later when the ball was in the back of the net, but the linesman flagged for offside without many complaints from the players.
City Juniors got the second-half underway being 2-0 down and having 35 minutes of normal time to get back into the game.
But the momentum Wallsend had from the first-half carried on as they forced some early saves from Matthews then rattled the cross bar through a 25-yard Dylan Garvey effort.
The third goal eventually came on the 50th minute when Garvey shot high into the net after a perfectly weighted through ball from midfield.
Later on, City Juniors chances came few and far between as Wallsend’s Dylan Garvey took the tie into his own hands, scoring a second goal after a failed back-pass by Lindo was snatched by the midfielder who then only had the ‘keeper to beat.
The game slowed down after the fourth goal, which allowed City Juniors the chance to grab one back. However the long balls and crosses into the box were well dealt with by the Wallsend defence as they put in a real champions performance to see the game out to the 70th minute and lift the 2017 Shiremoor Press U13’s Cup.
