New HUB Programme for Northumberland Referees

Northumberland FA are delighted to announce a brand new ‘HUB’ programme that will support referees and referee development within the county.

This has allowed for the recruitment of five new positions which will open for applicants following its creation.

The programme will run as a pilot for six months from January before being reviewed for further rollout in season 19/20.

Northumberland FA Hub Programme

The aim of the HUB is to assist in appointing referees to clubs who are signed up to the programme. Through the HUB it is hoped to reduce the admin burden on clubs in finding referees for their games.

The county will be split up into five HUBs, clubs who sign up to the programme will be allocated a HUB based on their location. Within each HUB there will be a co-ordinator whose role will be able to assist clubs with appointing referees. To do this the club would need to provide the co-ordinator their fixtures for a weekend on a Monday; at least five days’ notice must be given. The co-ordinator will then look to appoint referees to their games.

Trainee referees who have recently completed the referee course will automatically be assigned a HUB following the end of their course. This will help newly qualified referees to achieve the minimum number of games required, additional experience and also supporting their continued professional development post course. In addition to this within each HUB there will be a mentor who is there to provide additional support and advice.

Existing registered referees will also have the opportunity to be involved in the programme and receive additional mentor support through involvement with the Northumberland FA HUB Programme.
