County FA Successful in Safeguarding Assessment

Northumberland FA receive emphatic Safeguarding Operating Standards pass in recognition for its hard-work, commitment and excellence in ensuring football remains safe for all.

Northumberland County FA is delighted to announce that it has passed its Safeguarding Operating Standards assessment and received praise for its on-going commitment to ensuring its activities remain safe for all age groups.

Girling Hughes Associates have been tasked by The Football Association to assess the safeguarding procedures followed by each County Football Association and their alignment to the Football Association’s Safeguarding Operating Standards.

As well as its governance and operating standards, each County FA’s communication, case management and monitoring of affiliated clubs is examined before a final grade is delivered.

A report by Girling Hughes Associates stated: “In the opinion of the assessors, Northumberland FA has systematically and fully embedded safeguarding into its governance structures and operational practices.

“There are some excellent examples of good practice in this county, in particular the work undertaken by the Discipline Officer in the development of YouTube videos to help under-18s understand the personal hearings process.

“The Chief Executive Officer, Board and Designated Safeguarding Officer have worked together with other staff to ensure that everybody has been involved in the process and they all understand their individual and collective responsibilities.”

John Ackerley, Northumberland FA Chief Executive Officer, said: “Everyone at Northumberland FA is extremely proud and thrilled to have received this richly-deserved recognition.

“We pride ourselves on our commitment to safeguarding procedures and ensuring football remains safe for all – and this positive feedback highlights the excellent work that has been undertaken throughout our organisation over recent times.

“On top of this, we’re currently recruiting members for a Youth Forum, to ensure that young people have a platform to express their views on issues relevant to them and influence change for the better. I’d encourage anyone interested in joining to CLICK HERE

Northumberland FA can also announce that it has expanded its safeguarding team by appointing Michael Turner as Assistant Safeguarding Officer. Michael will commence his new role on Thursday 2 August.
