Promotion success for Northumberland referees

Two local officials are recognised by The FA

There's been great news for two Northumberland referees who have been promoted to Select Panel Assistants by The FA.

Adam Nichol and Darren Williams are now ranked among the highest match officials within Northumberland FA and are eligible to officiate in National League and Premier League 2 matches.

Nichol, aged 24, started his career in 2013 while Williams, 40, is in his fifth season.

NFA Referee Development Officer Kevin Azzopardi welcomed the news: "This is a clear vote of trust in the ability of both individuals as well as the training and development strategy that we have been following in Northumberland over the past season."

"Progress is ongoing and we're working hard to further develop our teaching and learning programmes are an ongoing process. As part of this we're organising a series of webinars to support the professional development of our local referees."

The news comes just days after The FA announced the promotion of local officials to Levels 3&4. The  final batch of promotions to Level 6 and 5 will be announced later this week.
