New Insurance provider for NFA
New UKGlobal Insurance Partnership
Northumberland FA have formed a new partnership with long-standing grassroots football insurance broker, UKGlobal.
UKGlobal are an experienced and progressive independent insurance broker dedicated to providing cost-effective insurance solutions for their clients. They are a national business, supporting their clients from regional offices and their Head Office in Manchester. UKGlobal aim to get to know their clients and pride themselves on their flexible, initiative-taking approach and their reputation for advice, customer service and client retention.
This partnership will provide Liability cover (including Public & Products Liability, Employers Liability, Professional Indemnity, Player Legal Defence costs and Directors & Officers Liability) and Personal Accident cover, for all eligible grassroots clubs and leagues.
Liability Cover
The Liability cover will be purchased by the clubs at the point of affiliation at a cost of £25 per club.
The Liability cover complies with the minimum requirements of The Football Association in protecting the County and all its members in respect of their liability to third parties for death, bodily injury or property damage arising from negligent acts. Claims examples include injury from goalposts/ crossbars, spectator facial injuries, glass & sharps, slipping & tripping, road traffic accidents from stray footballs.
The Liability cover also includes legal defence costs up to £250,000, to defend a player accused of negligently injuring another player, provided there is a reasonable prospect of successfully defending the action or prosecution. The policy does not provide cover for awards for damages made to a player injured by another player. For obvious reasons it excludes reckless or wilful breaches of duty which are regarded as deliberate acts of violence. It is not in the public interest or that of Football in general to defend anyone that commits such an offence. If a player is guilty, they should not receive financial protection and they should be responsible personally. The personal accident cover benefits should protect the injured player/party.
IMPORTANT – CLAIMS OR POSSIBLE CLAIMS NOTIFICATION
It is important for clubs to be aware that cover under the Professional Indemnity, Directors & Officers and the Abuse extension under the Liability policy is provided on a ‘claims-made’ basis, as it is under the Marsh policy. If any club or its’ officers are aware of any circumstance that might give rise to a claim, the matter should be notified to Marsh as soon as possible and along with any other incidents, before the end of the current period of insurance, i.e., 30th June 2024. This is very important as it is the insurer on cover at the time the claim, or possible claim, was first made or notified to the club or one of its’ officers, that pays the claim. If there is something relevant to discuss and you would like some advice on it, UKGlobal are happy to discuss it with you.
In summary, if a club is aware of a possible claim and fails to notify the current insurer (Marsh), the claim will not be paid by the new insurer.
Grassroots Clubs
Please note that the Liability cover is only available to clubs and teams participating at Steps 5 and below. If your club or one of its teams plays at Step 4 and above, please contact UKGlobal as they can provide a separate quotation.
Contract Players
Clubs that have players who are on a standard FA contract basis could find themselves legally liable for negligent acts committed by those players as the wording of the contract states that the contract player is an employee of the club. If your club has any players on a contract basis, please contact the team at UKGlobal to discuss and UKGlobal will advise and assist you further.
Premises & Property Owners Liability
The Public Liability coverage provided by the policy is not designed to provide insurance for clubs that have their own Freehold or Leasehold premises with obligations to fully repair and maintain the facility. The policy is designed for clubs that rent or have the use of municipal and similar facilities. For clubs with their own facilities, Property Owners and occupiers’ liability exposures should be covered under a more specific policy, such as a Commercial Combined or Property Owners policy.
If for any reason a Club that owns its own facilities is unable to obtain this cover at a commercially viable cost as part of a Commercial Combined package that usually offers cover for their Property, Revenue, Employers Liability etc, UKGlobal do include an option to purchase a Property Owners Liability extension to the Liability policy which will be available through UKGlobal direct.
The additional premiums for this Property Owners Liability extension are:

Clubs are encouraged to contact UKGlobal to discuss any questions they may have and receive advice on their specific requirements. UKGlobal can offer cover to include buildings, contents, playing surfaces, sports equipment, floodlights, trophies and field machinery, loss of revenue and full Employers, Public, Products and Property Owners Liability arising from the ownership and operation of such facilities.
Personal Accident Cover
Most of the benefits provided by UKGlobal are superior to those previously provided under the Northumberland FA scheme. The mandatory requirements of Northumberland FA for Personal Accident cover are met under the Youth policy and the Adult Intermediate policy. Details can be found on the attached schedules of benefits for Adult and Youth teams.
UKGlobal offer various levels of benefits catering for the specific needs of clubs and individuals. For example, packages are available for Adult teams that include weekly benefits from £30 to £150 per week for up to 104 weeks.
We are encouraging clubs/teams to look at and discuss the needs of the individuals within a team. Whilst an employed person may continue to be paid by their employer in the event of a footballing accident, a self-employed person may not have that safety net and will most certainly benefit from a higher weekly sum.
These packages (Superior 30 to 150) are available at affiliation on the Platform for Football (PFF) or following direct discussion with UKGlobal. It is important that the needs of all players are met, so the different options available should be discussed and considered with the help of the team at UKGlobal.
Details of the packages available are provided on a separate document.
UKGlobal provide a package of benefits for affiliated referees. The individual should consider their position should they be misfortunate enough to suffer an injury that prevents them from working thus affecting their usual income. UKGlobal welcome the opportunity to discuss with individuals their specific needs and offer an appropriate solution.
All premiums are inclusive of Insurance Premium Tax @ 12% and fees.
