CEO Column: FA Community Awards Return!

It’s that time of the year again – the FA Community Awards are back!

At Northumberland FA we work tirelessly to improve grassroots football throughout the county, but without the time, hard-work and dedication of our fantastic volunteers, the grassroots game simply wouldn’t be the same.

The 2017 FA Community Awards provide us with the perfect opportunity to recognise and celebrate these volunteers, and I would like to encourage the people of Northumberland to make their nominations before the deadline in April.

There are a total of eight categories, including the People’s Award which is voted for by the public, so please click here to nominate your grassroots hero today!

Meanwhile, a thrilling cup semi-final took place on Thursday (9 February), with North Shields FC claiming a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Newcastle United Under23s to reach the Techflow Group Northumberland Senior Cup Final.

A crowd of over 600 were in attendance for a game which did not disappoint. The tight encounter ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and was just as closely fought in the penalty shoot-out, with The Robins eventually winning 10-9 from the spot.
