Roper: "I think we will win the League"

After scoring a hat trick in the Stelrad Minor Cup final last month, former West Allotment Celtic forward Martin Roper now has his sights set on even more silverware at Killingworth Y.P.C.

"I think we will win the league and go on to win the other cup, and then we will just go on from there,” said Roper.

"There are no goalscoring targets for myself, it's all about the team - we want to win the treble this year.”

The Northern Alliance 1st Division side currently sit second in the league with a first place finish in their own hands, having five games over their rivals Hazlerigg Victory.

And as the campaign comes to a close, the 32-year-old also has hopes of retaining his partnership with the prolific Malcolm Morien, with Killingworth seeing the year out with a hefty twelve games this month due to the fixture congestion.

"He has a massive influence on the team,” added Roper.

"You see him in the starting line-up, he holds up the ball, plays well on my game and gives me the freedom - he's a real asset.”

As well as a promotion on the cards, the club will travel to Birtley for their Bluefin Sports Bill Gardner Cup final against Winlaton Vulcans in the next few weeks where they have the chance to take another step towards a treble-winning season.
