Just three Northumberland clubs progressed in the Buildbase FA Vase First Round Qualifying on Saturday afternoon - with Whitley Bay, Bedlington Terriers and West Allotment Celtic all defeating opposition to join Ashington in the next round.

It was dominant performances for both Whitley Bay and Bedlington Terriers, who demolished their competition with convincing 6-0 and 5-0 wins respectively.

The Seahorses are four time winners of the Vase, and it’s clear to see why, with a hat-trick from top marksman Jack Foalle and four second half goals to get off to a dream start in the competition against Esh Winning.

Likewise, The Terriers were propelled into the Second Round Qualifying, beating lower league Darlington RA with goals from: Ronnie Jones (2), Stephen Young (2) and Trae Rowlandson.

There was also a firm 3-0 victory for West Allotment Celtic against NCEL Premier Division side Yorkshire Amateur at Druid Park – Celtic showcasing the strength of the Northern League by beating their opponents from the step above.

Elsewhere, there was heartbreak for step seven side Alnwick Town as they crashed out of the competition with a 2-1 defeat to high-flying NWCFL club Charnock Richard – losing out in the 5th minute of injury time at St James’ Park (Alnwick).

The 2015 FA Vase winners, North Shields, were equally edged out of the competition at the first attempt by Consett – losing 2-1 at the Daren Persson Stadium and extending The Steelmen’s winning run to seven games.

A 2-0 defeat also knocked out Heaton Stannington at the hands of Dunston UTS, who are now nine consecutive wins away from replicating their 2012 Wembley Stadium heroics.

With the Second Qualifying Rounds already drawn, the following fixtures have now been confirmed:

Ashington v Crook Town

Whickham v Whitley Bay

Bishop Auckland or Newton Aycliffe v West Allotment Celtic

Bedlington Terriers v Redcar Athletic

The replay between Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe will be played tonight (7pm), with the winner meeting West Allotment Celtic in the next round.

All Buildbase FA Vase Second Round Qualifying matches will be played on Saturday 15 September 2018 (3pm).
