Safeguarding visits

We recently carried out spot checks at our Central Venues

Northumberland FA staff recently carried out unannounced safeguarding visits at our Central Venues where we checked coach and assistant coach qualifications.

We spoke to 37 teams (from 25 clubs), and found issues with 38% of those teams. This included coaches with incorrect qualifications (eg lead coach with only a Playmaker qualification and not supervised by a Level 1 Coach); coaches not listed on Whole Game or linked to the team they were supervising; coaches without a DBS; and coaches with no first aid kits.

We have taken prompt action and as a result issued eight E1.2 charges (misconduct) and in several instances have issued clubs with safeguarding action plans.

Please may we take this opportunity to remind all clubs that coaches MUST have all the appropriate qualifications and equipment. If you are in any doubt please contact our office for advice. All individuals who have contact with children as a coach or assistant coach must have a DBS in place.

Spot checks will continue across the rest of the season, as part of our commitment to keeping football safe and enjoyable.
